Chrisofix
Saddle joint orthoses for osteoarthritis
For night and rest use
The night use version of the saddle joint orthosis serves to fixate the base joint of the thumb (MCP) and the saddle joint (CMC). It may also be used to good effect in cases of saddle joint arthritis for night time splinting and also for fixation of the metacarpal of the thumb or the saddle joint following injury, sprains or even in the rehabilitation phase following fractures.
This product is also recommended for the treatment of De Quervain syndrome. It may also be utilized as complementary treatment to surgery performed on fractures of the thumb metacarpal (Benett, Rolando, Winterstein fractures). Also possible to wear during daytime.
Application and adjusting
The ready to adjust Chrisofix® orthoses have to be adjusted directly on the injured/diseased body part. The rough adjustment (bending) has to be performed on a non-injured limb of similar size. Fine adjust-ments, readjustments (e.g. after soft tissue swelling is reduced) can be made without removing the orthosis.
- Place the forearm into the ready to use orthosis.
- Adjust the orthosis to the hand and wrist with gentle pressure, and close the ring around the thumb.
- Fasten the bandage on back of the hand, around the wrist and forearm.
To remove the orthosis, it is not necessary to open the strap on the thumb and back of the hand; the hand can simply be pulled out from and later shifted back into the fixation. Frequent bending and stretching of the orthosis can damage its stability; these must be restricted to the necessary minimum.
