Before applying the splint, the fracture(s) must be localized with an X-ray. The patient should be seated or standing (preferably not lying down) during the application of the splint. They should maintain as straight a posture as possible, as good posture supports proper splint application.

  • The skin must be hairless and degreased before the splint is applied.
  • Pre-form the splint on the non-injured side of the chest. Align the arrow-marked side of the splint to the chest, ensuring the arrow follows the direction of the ribs.
  • Remove the paper cover sheet marked with the arrow from the splint surface.
  • Apply the splint to the fractured area while the patient exhales. The splint must bridge the fractured region.
  • As the patient inhales, remove the paper cover sheet from the underside of the waterproof foil and press the adhesive foil edges onto the skin. Using the flap on the outer surface of the splint, peel off the outer transparent foil to make the waterproof layer breathable.
  • Ensure the final cover sheet is removed from the splint as the last step; leaving it on will render the splint unusable!
Instructions for Use

Before applying the splint, the exact fracture site(s) must be identified via X-ray or localized based on pain.

  • The splint can be applied to clean, intact skin or after wound care.
  • If necessary, medical professionals should be consulted for splint application.
  • The splint should be applied while the patient is standing or sitting, preferably not in a lying position. Stand or sit upright as much as possible; a straight posture helps position the splint correctly.
  • Before applying the splint, shave the hair from the affected skin surface and degrease the skin with a disinfectant, allowing it to dry.

Rib immobilization splint application:

  • Before applying the splint to the injured area, adjust its shape using the analogous spot on the opposite (uninjured) side of the chest.
  • Adjust the shape without removing the protective paper from the splint’s self-adhesive surface.
  • Place the splint on the chest so the side marked with arrows faces the chest and the arrows are parallel to the ribs. Gently bend the splint to conform to the chest surface.
  • Remove the protective paper layer from the rigid surface of the splint’s body.
  • Apply the splint to the rib fracture zone while the patient exhales, ensuring the splint covers the injured area.
  • The rib immobilization splint has two (2) transparent protective layers. After fixing the splint to the chest wall (but not earlier), remove the protective paper layer from the waterproof membrane on all sides. While inhaling, smooth the membrane against the chest skin surface.
  • Lastly, remove the external transparent protective film, allowing the adhered waterproof membrane to become air-permeable. Under no circumstances should this external protective film be left on the product—it must be removed as the final step; otherwise, the splint becomes unusable.

Precautions:

  • Avoid actions that may cause damage, significant deformation, or contamination of the product.
  • Do not use a broken product or one with a compromised structure.
  • Do not cut the product.
  • In rare cases, itching may occur on the skin areas covered by the transparent film. In such cases, remove the covering membrane and fix the splint to the skin with a non-allergic adhesive plaster. Once the membrane is removed, showering is only permitted with a temporarily applied waterproof dressing.
  • Avoid using multiple fixation products simultaneously unless advised by a doctor.

Chrisofix rib immobilization splints are recommended by Latvian doctors

It all started when, while treating our patients and recommending specific medical devices—rib immobilization splints—we often encountered situations where patients purchased low-quality or incorrect splints, thereby failing to achieve the expected treatment outcomes. This led us to the idea of finding and selecting the best and most effective aids for health recovery to offer to our patients.

As this initial idea evolved, this store was established. Collaborating with doctors from other specialties, we began offering additional medical products that we personally selected, ensuring their compliance with high medical and quality standards.

To your health!

Sincerely,
Dr. med. Jānis Šlēziņš and Dr. Raimonds Mikijanskis

Biju pārsteigta, ka ir kāda jauna mūsdienīga metode laustu ribu imobilizācijai, sāpju mazināšanai. Jo biju sagatavojusies kādu laiku ciest no sāpēm ieelpojot, kustoties…Pirms trim nedēļām traumatologs piedāvāja uzlikt lauzto ribu apvidū Chrisofix ribu imobilizācijas šinu.
